About Syzygy Media WorksSyzygy Media Works was founded in 2001 by Ian McDermott, Samuel Ranger, and David Watts, Jr. An outgrowth of Mr. Watts's Film Style Workshop at Wakefield Community Access Television, in Wakefield, Massachusetts, each founder brought his extensive experiences in key areas of the company. Syzygy Media Works was, from the outset, a full-service media firm specializing in corporate projects from concept through production and post-production to the final finished product. Over the years, Syzygy Media Works has evolved into primarily an independent entertainment and information production company. Still offering concept-to-finished product services, Syzygy Media Works is currently working on a range of projects the include a sitcom (in development), an interview series on various aspects of writing, and new podcast series. This expanded role allows Syzygy Media Works to bring to corporate productions enhanced expertise and expertise and talent resources. With our subsidiary firm, PragmaticPR, we are able to dovetail our services with marketing, public relations, and event planning, further extending the original full-service concept. Founded in 2006 by Doug Wood-Boyle, PragmaticPR joined Syzygy Media Works in 2007. ------------------------------------------------------------ Syzygy - The nearly straight-line configuration of three celestial bodies (as in the sun, moon, and earth during a solar or lunar eclipse) in a gravitational system. (source: Merriam-Webster Dictionary) ------------------------------------------------------------ The use of the word Syzygy in the company name came about from David Watts, Jr.'s earlier involvement as Special Media Consultant to the Rockport Chamber Music Festival in their first four seasons. In the Festival's first season, in 1982, the World Premiere piece was Syzygy nr. 5 by composer Jerzy Sapieyevski. So intrigued was Mr. Watts with the word and with its meaning as described by Mr. Sapieyevski, he kept it in the back of his mind until the opportunity to use it nearly two decades later. |
